We believe that the Brass Rat tells a societal history, so this history definitely must be preserved! We are doing everything that we can to bring this project to life and we'd love your help! Building a comprehensive history of the Brass Rat is a long process so we'd love to hear your stories. Each year, the Brass Rat is redesigned by a committee of 12 students from the second-year class, who. We hope to bring all of this information together so that anyone interested can very easily learn about MIT and the ring's beautiful history. Since its debut in 1929, the MIT class ring affectionately nicknamed the Brass Rat for its featured mascot, the MIT beaver has become a distinctive symbol of the Institute, worn proudly by many of its 138,000 alumni. We have Oktoberfest, military, historical, German heritage, sports, castle and nautical themed steins hand-painted and meticulously crafted by the finest artists in the Westerwald of Germany. There’s no shortage of choices in our selection of German beer steins. Over the years, many different organizations across MIT have recorded pieces of the Brass Rat's history - organizations including the Tech and the MIT Alumni Association. Our German beer steins are 100 authentic. The purpose of the project is to centralize all information about the Brass Rat since its creation in 1929 and the committee that designs it, RingComm.
